Liverpool acknowledged their "devastating loss" in a statement on Thursday and several first-team players, as well as head coach Arne Slot, are present at the funeral of both Jota and his brother Andre Silva in Gondomar, Portugal.

Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk was pictured carrying a red wreath with Jota's number 20 emblazoned on it into the ceremony, while Andrew Robertson carried the number 30, Andre Silva's number for Portuguese second-tier side Penafiel.

Among the other attendees were Portugal internationals Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Ruben Neves, the latter having travelled after featuring for Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup in the United States on Friday night.
